Hi Kate,
Thanks. On the pages linking to the NLVM site, I reference the CheerpJ Applet Runner as a work-around - it works well. I already had the Hooda Math version in MathsLinks, but I have connected it to this worksheet as well.
Fixed the worksheet.

Hi Amanda and Simon, if you are having issues with the NLVM website and Java, then HoodaMaths has a version of the equations with positives which can be used to support the first worksheet. https://www.hoodamath.com/games/algebrabalanceequations.html
Also the 2nd worksheet has a small error in the first equation between the picture and the equation, the equation should have -3.

You can get the widget operating on the site if you use Internet Explorer 11, I don’t believe that Java is supported in any other browser.

They used to sell a downloadable version of the site - as a self-contained program it got around the Java issue, but that doesn’t seem to be available anymore.

This resource looks good. I went to the national library of virtual manipulatives and I wasn’t able to get it to work.  I tried a few things recommended - like enable java and looking at edit group policy in Microsoft Edge but it didn’t work either. If you have any suggestions to how access the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives I would be grateful.
