Updated for 2024.
Like most teachers I write the date at the top of the whiteboard each day. As an extra point of interest, in 2016 I endeavoured to write a number sentence using the digits of the date, in order, underneath the date.
For example:
7/4/16 7 - √4 = -1 + 6
27/5/16 2 + 7 - 5 = √16
(Date written as dd/mm/yy)
This is the Google Sheet, feel free to contribute, for 2024.
Previously: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023.
16 January 2018 Edit: 29 January 2024

The 5 caused problems for 5/8/24 so I used the floor function again:
⌊√5⌋ - 8 = -2 - 4
Other suggestions?

Things have been OK for a while, but the 7 is making things difficult for July. (Luckily a lot of July is holidays!)
I’ve had to use the floor function for 2/7/24 and 4/7/24:
2 - ⌊√7⌋ = 2 - √4
4 - √(7 + 2) = ⌊√(√4)⌋
As always - other suggestions very welcome!

I also looked up this site to check where the decimal point is supposed to go these days!

I couldn’t find an equation for 2/5/24, but then I came up with this inequality, and thought it might be fun!
(for stage 4 I think): 2.5 > 2.4
Any comments welcome!

I’ve been thinking this year could be quite difficult. Too many even numbers!
I’ve already had issues with 7/2/24. I’ve come up with a solution using the floor function, but any other solutions gratefully received!!!
7 = ⌊√2 ⌋ + 2 + 4

Another problem day - 7/9/23. I’ve used a factorial because I couldn’t come up with anything for stages 3/4. Any suggestions welcome!

And the same with 8/6/23.
I also found that I’d made some mistakes with the dates themselves. Have fixed them now for all pages.

And another. 8/5/23. I’ve had to use a floor function (integer part). Other suggestions welcome!

Next problem day for this year! 3/5/23. A little questionable to have the decimal point without a zero preceding, and for it to be on the ground. Anyone have a better suggestion?

First problem for 2023. Used a factorial for 7/3/23. As always, any other suggestions gratefully received.

OK. All done for this year. No more problems since August.

Problem number 6 - 5/8/22. Had to use integer part/floor function again. As always, any other suggestions gratefully received!
MrsK on 06 June 22 at 12:44 PM #
And problem number 5 - 9/6/22. Had to use integer part/floor function. Any other suggestions gratefully received!

4th problem for 2022 - 3/6/22. I got it with a factorial, but no luck stage 3 or 4.

3rd problem for 2022 - 2/5/22. Again, got an expression using integer part/floor function, but other suggestions appreciated!

2nd problem for 2022 - 7/4/22. I can do it with integer part/floor function, but any suggestions using stage 3 or 4 syllabus appreciated! Looks like the 7th is going to cause the problem dates!

The only date we couldn’t do without factorials or integer parts last year was 8/2/21. I think this year may be harder - already have a problem with 7/2/22, so I used Integer part. Any other suggestions gratefully received though!

I had to use factorials for 8/2/21. Anyone find anything else?
