  • find a resource you have used before, so that you can use it again, or
  • search for a resource you have not seen before that might be useful for teaching a particular concept, or
  • share a resource with other maths teachers in a place they can easily find it any time in the future

MathsStarters is a small but growing collection of activities to start a maths lesson. Each activity can be used over and over with a new set of numbers each time.

This Privacy Policy explains how MathsLinks/MathsStarters ("we", "us", "our"), operated by Simon Job (ABN 68 412 271 031), a sole trader based in New South Wales, Australia, collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information through mathslinks.net or mathsstarters.net (the "Site").

1. About this policy

We are committed to handling personal information responsibly. Although sole traders below the $3 million annual turnover threshold are generally exempt from the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we have chosen to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as good practice, and because our payment and analytics providers require it.

2. Personal information we collect

We may collect the following personal information:

  • Account information — your name and email address when you register or log in to access site content.
  • Payment information — when you purchase a premium subscription (MathsStarters Premium), payment is processed by PayPal. We do not collect or store your full card or PayPal account details ourselves; PayPal provides us with limited transaction details (such as your name, email address, subscription/profile ID, amount paid and payment date).
  • Usage data — through Google Analytics, we collect information about how visitors use the Site, such as pages viewed, time on site, device/browser type, and approximate location (derived from IP address). This is generally not personally identifiable but may be combined with other data in limited circumstances.
  • Correspondence — information you provide if you contact us for support.

3. How we collect information

We collect personal information directly from you when you register, log in, or make a payment. We also collect information automatically via cookies and similar technologies used by Google Analytics.

4. Why we collect, hold, use and disclose your information

We use personal information to:

  • create and manage your account and login access;
  • provide, maintain and bill for premium services;
  • verify and process payments via PayPal;
  • understand and improve how the Site is used, via Google Analytics;
  • respond to enquiries and provide support;
  • comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing without your consent.

5. Disclosure of information, including overseas

We disclose personal information to the following third-party service providers, which may store or process data outside Australia (including in the United States):

Because these providers may process data overseas, we cannot guarantee that data sent overseas will be treated in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, though PayPal, Google and Dreamhost maintain their own privacy and security safeguards.

We do not otherwise share your personal information with third parties, except where required by law.

6. Cookies

The Site uses cookies (via Google Analytics) to understand site traffic and improve user experience. You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though this may affect some site functionality, including staying logged in.

7. Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Login and account data is stored on our website hosting platform provided by DreamHost; payment details are held by PayPal, not by us.

8. Access and correction

You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by contacting us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time.

9. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
