How high is that tree? - the short way

A practical activity using right-angled trig. Students work in small groups to measure the height of a tree, using the short-cut of an angle of elevation of 45 degrees. They need a clinometer, tape measure, scientific calculator, pen and this worksheet.

I love this use of Tan 45 and have considered using it with Cos 60.
